IN THE NAC ART GALLERY

The artwork of Joy Hoffman.

I discovered my artistic self in 1999.  After my mother passed away, I was cleaning out her apartment and could not discard all the art supplies, art magazines and finished works my  Mom had accumulated over the years.   I  took most of it and decided to try my hand at watercolor only because it was portable.   My goal was to see if  I enjoyed painting, to discover what talent I might have, and to decide if I wanted to pursue art in any form.
A whole new world opened up.   What started as a hobby was fast becoming an engrossing advocation.  I  started with a few watercolor lessons at the recreation center in Medford to learn some technique.  It was not long before I was enrolling an any class that was within driving distance and workshops at the Academy of Fine Arts in Phila.
In addition, for the last five years, I  have taken classes in Philadelphia at Temple's TARP specializing in color systems as expressed in abstracts working with gouche, acrylics and other mediums.
I have exhibited my work at the Dr. David Flinker Pavilion Art Gallery at the Virtua Hospital in Mt. Holly, the Perkins Art Center in Moorestown and the Markeim Art Center in Haddonfield.  In addition, my paintings were hung in the Haddon Township Library, the Burlington County Library, the Cherry Hill Library and the Kennedy Center in Willingboro.  My paintings were shown at the Rancocas Craft and Antique Show.
My affiliations include the Center for the Arts in Southern New Jersey,  the Willingboro Art Alliance,  the Burlington County Art Guild and Art Educators of NJ South Section. My watercolors have been juried into several shows and have won prizes.
Recently, I  have been branching out to discover other mediums and skills. I have been experimenting with acrylics, transfers and collage.

I have found that art is a wonderful way to express feelings, emotions, skills and ideas.  Every work is a challenge and a learning experience.

My current show at the  Neighborhood Art Center concentrates on watercolor paintings.   It exhibits a variety of subjects, techniques and styles.
